The small rubber blocks hold back the gold and direct it into the depressions where it deposits well. Interesting heavy minerals such as garnet, zircon, etc., can also be effectively caught with the mat. It can be used with or without expanded metal and can be combined very well with other gold traps. Pre-screening the river sediment is not absolutely necessary here, but it is useful for washing fine gold. The Vortex Mat works with very low flow rates and does not clog, which is a great advantage over other mats for fine gold washing.
