The small rubber blocks hold the gold and guide it into the depressions where it settles well. Interesting heavy minerals such as garnet, zircon, etc. can also be easily caught with the mat. It can be used with or without expanded metal and can be very well combined with other gold traps.
Pre-screening the river sediment is not absolutely necessary here but is useful for washing gold dust. The Vortex mat works with very low flow rates and does not clog, which is a great advantage over other mats for fine gold washing!
